Master Mazu tells us that the Great Way needs no cultivation, just do not defile. Later he tells us that "Ordinary mind is the Way." The conclusion is that the Mind of your daily activities--your regular, ordinary Mind--is fine, just so long as you don't defile it with greed, anger, and ignorance. The deluded Mind is the defiled Mind. The One Mind of the Buddhas & the Sages is the Ordinary Mind, the one we already have, and don't need to cultivate. "To Stop the Children From Crying"
When asked why Mazu would say, "Mind is Buddha," he replied, "To stop the children from crying." The question is, what are we doing and saying to stop the children from crying? And what do we say and do to stop ourselves from crying?
